A high-level meeting was held in Mogadishu between mayors representing the North Eastern State and the Somalia Disaster Management Agency (SODMA) to discuss the growing humanitarian impact of drought and the urgent needs of affected communities.
Representing Buuhoodle District, Mayor Abdifarah Ali Awil provided a detailed briefing on the severe drought situation and the increasing number of drought-affected families who have moved to Buuhoodle and surrounding areas in search of water, food, shelter, and other essential services.
The Mayor highlighted the urgent humanitarian needs facing the newly displaced communities and called for coordinated support to ensure that vulnerable families receive timely assistance.
During the meeting, participants emphasized the need for an immediate and coordinated humanitarian response to the situation in Buuhoodle and its surrounding areas. SODMA expressed its commitment to supporting the affected communities and strengthening cooperation with local authorities and humanitarian partners.
Mayor Abdifarah Ali Awil stressed the importance of continued collaboration between local government, SODMA, humanitarian organizations, and development partners to address the effects of the drought and provide essential assistance to vulnerable communities.
Buuhoodle Local Government remains committed to working with national institutions and humanitarian partners to protect affected communities and strengthen access to essential services.
